Blessings In A Backpack Oakton School Chute every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month
Blessings in a Backpack is a national non-profit organization that provides food for elementary school children across America who might otherwise go hungry. Join with others to help pack backpacks with groceries for students to take home to their families. Please arrive at Oakton by 4 pm. The event will run until 5 pm.
Chute Middle School 6th Grade Orientation April 26, 2018 6:30-8:30 pm (Come at 5:30 to volunteer.)
Do you remember was it was like to be a 5th grader visiting Chute for the very first time last spring? There will be a group of students feeling just like you. Come out and help us prepare someone else to feel comfortable, too!

Everyone is welcome to help about Connections. On the 2nd Saturday of each month from 10 am to 12:30 pm, consider joining a team to sort and organize donations in their clothing room and food pantry as well as help with light cleaning around the shelter. From 9 am to 12 pm on the 3rd Sunday of each month, the EONC hosts outdoor work days which may include gardening. They can also use help cutting out materials for kids’ classes or with special events like the *Winter Chili Fest in February. Set aside a day to serve. Do not forget: an adult must accompany all youth under 16 years old.
*Emily Oaks Nature Center hosts two evenings of old-fashioned winter fun and food, one weekend in early February. Families enjoy ice skating on the pond (weather permitting), hay rides on the trail, snow and ice games, wildlife treat trees, and roasting marshmallows over a campfire. Delicious chili dinners are served indoors by a roaring fire, overlooking the Emily Oaks pond.

For animal lovers ages 8-12 years old, the shelter offers a Junior Volunteer Program which involves monthly meetings at the shelter with educational programs and projects to help the animals. Evanston Public Library Teen Advisory Board 1703 Orrington Ave. Evanston, IL
The Loft Teen Advisory Board is for students in grades 6-12. Meetings are usually held on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. TAB members assist Loft staff with planning and leading teen programming, decision making in The Loft, book recommendations, book reviews and more. Teens also help create content for The Loft’s website, decide on prizes for the summer reading program and make videos. Pizza and soda at some of the meetings are an added bonus.

A Just Harvest Community Kitchen 7649 N. Paulina Ave. Chicago, IL 60626
Dinner is served! Every day at this community kitchen in Chicago, doors open at 4:30 pm. Food is served Monday through Friday from 5:30-6:30 pm and on Saturdays and Sundays from 5-6 pm. National holidays are included. The minimum age for volunteers is 12 years. Children 12-14 years old must have at least 3 adults with their group to supervise. Duties include putting food on the plates, serving meals (restaurant-style) and busing, or cleaning, the tables. Call 773-262-2297 Extension 24 for more information. Note: Groups that plan to volunteer must bring their own food for about 90 people.
